On my project, I explored the design concept “more is more” in a way that made use of intricacy and complexity without compromising the visual appeal of the product. I made six t-shirts, six skateboards and six fabric tote bags with eighteen unique designs that used a combination of geometric patterns, line and stylized art. As supplementary materials, I created one 30-second promotional action video, one poster using figurative, geometric patterns and line art designs, and stickers with identical intricate graphic illustrations using images. These supplementary materials aided this design project by promoting the design concept “more is more”.
My brand is called “SPIN COOL” to convey the idea of a style that is cool, powerful, intense, bold and complex. My brand created a distinctive visual style for skateboards, t-shirts and tote bags. My last name, Hilado, is a Spanish word that means spinning yarn. My family name refers to the process of spinning. Because of my last name, I am inspired to do what my ancestors used to do. I love complex and intricate design. I am also a visual artist and I love art. Recently, I discovered my own style, which is a combination of realism and abstraction with premises of geometric patterns, graffiti art, line art and stylized art, which I used for my project. I realized that I could bring functional beauty to an object. I would like to see my art used in other media like t-shirts, ceramics, leather, paper, or shared and appreciated online through social media. I like the idea that my art can be functional.
